In a couple of months time the government will be publishing a new Energy Bill which will shape our electricity generating sector for years to come. If we are to have any chance of meeting our Climate Change Act obligations then it is essential that we take decisions which mean that by 2030 there are almost no carbon emissions from generating electricity. But George Osborne wants to cut support for renewable energy and leave us committed to a future dominated by gas.
Gas prices have doubled in the last 8 years and will almost certainly keep rising, making this not only a bad deal for the climate, but a bad one for consumers too.
We need to push the Lib Dem MP's to oppose this and maintain the support for renewables they showed in the election campaign. The Norwich group are going to be putting up posters, leafleting in some areas and collecting petition cards to hand over to Simon Wright, our local MP. We will be opposite the Forum this Saturday from around 1pm, so please come along and help man the stall or just sign a card.
