Ministry of Defence submits planning application for joint UK-France warhead research facility

Posted by bpeter_101 - 19 December 2011 at 8:03pm - Comments

The Ministry of Defence has submitted a planning application to West Berkshire Council for construction of a joint UK-France nuclear warhead research facility at the Atomic Weapons Establishment, Aldermaston.

The new facility - a technology development centre that will be used to develop powerful X-ray analytical instruments for monitoring hydrodynamic test experiments - is the UK's contribution to 'Project Teutates', a 50 year programme of joint UK-French warhead research.  The experiments will be carried out at the planned 'Epure' joint research facility at Valduc in France.
