Several online opportunities to question politicians on Trident have come up at short notice recently, and this election will throw up plenty more. So to supplement the Trident blogging we have set up a twitter feed to direct you towards these opportunities as soon they appear.
For those new to Twitter just think of it as an online bulletin board that sends updates to your phone by text.
Please sign up, it’s simple to do and will help get the message out there.
All you need to do is:
- Sign up on twitter http://twitter.com/
(it’s very quick and painless. Twitter will then send an email for you to confirm your registration) - Go to http://twitter.com/devices to enter your mobile number
- Go to the 97 billion twitter feed https://twitter.com/97billion
- Click on ‘Follow’ then click on the small grey phone symbol (to the right of ‘following’) to direct tweets (that’s twitter updates) to your phone.
- Now you’re up and running, simple.
So now any updates to this twitter feed will be sent to your phone, appearing as text messages alerting you to new online Trident opportunities. We are encouraging you to have these tweets directed to your phone because this is the most immediate way for you to receive messages which may need acting on at short notice.
The same info will appear online on the twitter feed. Not everyone will have the time or capacity to get involved in this way, but it’s the simplest and most direct method of getting rapid response alerts out to you.
We won’t flood your phone with messages, at most 2-3 per day, more likely 2 to 3 per week.
You can also choose to follow the feed, or indeed the Peace & Disarmament Group site as a whole, using RSS ‘Really Simple Syndication’.
RSS tells you automatically via a ‘newsreader’ when new content appears on your chosen websites/webpages, saving you having to trawl websites to check for yourself.
There’s a simple guide to RSS at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/help/rss/3223484.stm
We don’t intend to publicise this beyond this network at present as it will serve simply as a rapid response prompt for the Peace & Disarmament Group. The establishment view is well enough represented in the blogosphere without us directing them to new ways of supporting the status quo.
Lastly, we don’t have the capacity to deal with providing technical support for using twitter, but you should find it a straightforward tool that is simple to use.
