I had finally plucked up the courage to go to my first ever Greenpeace local meeting. Being a Jedi Council member and having tweeted and e-petitioned all and sundry I thought it was high time I met up with some 'real people', although I had a few worries and a secret which I wasn't sure whether or not to divulge.
Not knowing much about the rank and file troops, other than they did amazing dancing at Glastonbury and liked dressing as stormtroopers, I was wondering if there might be some initiation ceremony, possibly invloving polar bears, tofu or having to be interrogated about what brand of coffee I drank. Rest assured, it was a lively, friendly group meeting in a little side-room of a pub in the middle of Preston. Beer was drunk, hand-knitted gloves admired and before I knew it I had volunteered for two sessions manning a stall at a local high school's One World week and also agreed to write the blog pieces for the local web page.
Great fun, good company and I am definitely going again - unless they find out my secret.....I like bacon butties!
Welcome, and a nice story, that'll hopefully inspire others to do similar - and take that first step.
Hi! Good to 'see' you outside of the council, and welcome to offline Greenpeace activity!
Glad to hear you had such a positive experience, though it is not surprising - Greenpeace people are just lovely :)
