If you're new to this site you may be wondering what's involved in "getting active" with Greenpeace. Here's a flavour of the wholerange of things we took part in last year (our first year following a "re-launch"). There's a role for everyone - from helping to update the web page to leafleting, managing our publicity, lobbying politicians and of course what for me is the fun bit - talking to people and getting support for our campaigns.
Here's a quick round up of what we got involved in -
- 8 group meetings - guest speakers from FOE and Climate camp.
- Airplot Street campaigns - 2 in Kingston town centre; 2 with West London in Syon Park and Hammersmith; family day outside Wormwood scrubs; green freshers' fayre at Kingston university.
- Demos/marches - The Wave, DECC vigil, the Miliband.
- Events - hosted a film evening with Transition town Kingston; planted an apple tree with Ham United Group; leafleted at film premiere of The End of the Line; gave radio interview during Kingston's "Paint the town green" week; guerrilla gardening at Airplot.
- Lobbying - meetings and photo opportunities with Susan Kramer MP
- Other - night watch on Rainbow Warrior - in charge on the bridge for 4 hours from midnight ... for me the highlight of the year but then I like clambering down ladders..
Our plans for 2010 include a mega combined event with the West London Greenpeace group - probably taking place in Richmond in April so watch this space, a new focus on airplot andopposing the proposed 3rd runway at Heathrow and of course trident.
So come along to a meeting or, if that's not your thing, just get in touch. New members are particularly welcome as are returnees - all members of the old Kingston group, step forward now...
A great start to 2009, her's looking forward to more fun and activities in 2010?
