On Saturday, Paul Tippell launched TRAKNAT in Twickenham. Traknat is a local network of campaigning groups he has established to bring together local residents to ask Vince Cable to disarm his UK Trade & Industry department.
At our March monthly meeting, Paul Tippell explained: “Vince Cable runs a department which continues to promote and approve weapons sales to regimes which are using force to suppress democracy protesters.
“I’m asking local groups to come together to demand that Vince Cable shuts his arms promotion unit and stops underwriting loans through UK Export Finance which enable the sales to take place.
“Until the government stops promoting arms sales, it will continue to ignore its own rules which prohibit arms sales where they may be used for internal repression.”
Only this week, Vince opened proceedings at the UK Trade & Investment Defence & Security Organisation (UKTI DSO) Symposium. UKTI DSO is a government unit which exists to help arms sales around the world. Vince himself addressed the event to outline his ongoing commitment to arms sales exports.
On Tuesday, we will be discussing hosting a campaigning event for TRAKNAT sometime this month. If you would like to join this campaign day with our group, email me at marialopez74@gmail.com.
