What do we want? Better chants

Posted by chrisB - 7 February 2010 at 2:03pm - Comments

Several people I know have commented that the Wave was a very quiet demonstration.  And I agree with them.  I think this was partly due having so many new people who weren't used to chanting.  But I also think the environmental movement lacks decent chants.  I think we need some new ones.  What do people think of the following:

  • “Oi Ed Milliband / Leave the carbon in the ground” is hated by everyone I know, even those who oppose new coal fired power stations
  • “What do we want / Green Jobs / When do we want them / Now” doesn't rhyme.
  • “Esso, Exxon, BP, Shell / Take your war and go to hell” is good, but is only vaguely related to the environmental movement
  • “Heathrow, BAA / We don't want your third runway” is good, but only deals with one source of climate change

There must be some better chants than this.  What do other people think?
