Remember those 'NO TAR SANDS' posters we completed way back at Environmental Rock? Well, today we took them to BP HQ in London. This was part of the event running from Monday 12th July to the end of the month - each day, groups from around the country take their posters to BP's HQ and hand them over (after some time leafleting staff and visitors of course) along with a small gift - from Southampton, a 'Titanic' fridge magnet - it was a marine disaster after all, which BP know all about... A little after 1pm, a posh Mercedes appeared and out stepped an immaculately-suited city gent. He scanned us and our posters, took a campaign leaflet, not very happily I have to say, and headed into the building. Who was he? None other than Carl-Henric Svanberg, the chair of the board of BP. The big question: did he read the leaflet? Regardless, he knows we were there!
In case you are wondering, the man looking at (and then taking) the posters is Robert Wine from BP's press office.
