Greenpeace supporters often organise fundraising and public outreach events to support Greenpeace’s work. As an individual Greenpeace supporter, it’s time, ideally with some help from a friend, to organise your first small event.
Fundraising events: Organising a fundraising event, allows you a large amount of creative freedom to try an idea, that will hopefully make a modest amount of money for the central organisation.
There are comprehensive guidelines here and you can join the community fundraising webgroup to see what others have done. Focus on organising an event, that you will be visible at and that you can publicise widely.
Good ideas include a local book sale, a pub quiz, a tea stall at a local fair, or a sponsored event / stunt where you can get coverage in the local paper.
Please register the details of your fundraising event.
Public Outreach events: Alternatively you can organise a more structured public outreach event. Options currently include:
- Showing a short Greenpeace film with a discussion afterwards. You can order a free DVD of ‘A Time Comes’ or ‘A Convenient Solution’ by emailing {insert link here}
- Organising a Greenspeakers presentation
You’ll need to find a suitable venue, a computer, a projector and of course an audience.
Publicity: Please publicise your event everywhere:
- Invite your friends and family
- Invite other local groups /networks and anyone interesting from your research
- Put posters up in local shops, the library, friendly venues and handout flyers. There are some templates you can use here
- Create an event on the webgroup, a facebook event, and/or tweet about your event
Please note while publicising your event, to describe yourself as a local Greenpeace supporter, or local Greenpeace supporters, not as a Greenpeace network – you’re not quite there yet.
At the event: Tell everyone you want to form a new Greenpeace network, and ask them for their contact details (email and phone no’s). Ideally produce, and hand out, a simple flyer advertising your first meeting.
Take pictures and / or some video and write a blog about your event on the webgroup.
