Today, members of Telford and Wrekin Greenpeace took to the streets of Wellington to share our message with the public and in turn, encourage their MP's to Go Beyond Oil!
We set up out information stall and adorned it with colouring pens, crayons, paints and facepaints, and the beautiful 'Go Beyond Oil' banner in Market Square.
In attendance were Emily, Katie, Doug, Jess and Spencer from the Telford Group, with a guest appearance of Andy from Worcester - a nice suprise!
We got off to an 'interesting' start, sharing the Square with the BNP and some Creationists, spreading the 'good news'. A concerned local resident, upon realising the BNP's unwelcome presence, went to a local stationary store and made an impromptu poster stating that 'BNP Not Welcome in Wellington'! The BNP crept off as quietly as they had come, back under the rock they came from, having been given the dressing down of their lives! It left everyone else in very high spirits for the next few hours!
The locals were very positive about our campaign once we had got them talking, although it was a dificult one to get them talking about initially. We came away after 3 hours with 30+ signed cards, some beautifully coloured in rainbows, and with a big smile on our faces!
We are now looking forward to the next step - meeting our local MP's to give them the message, that their constituents want a Green Energy Bill, and that we expect them to voice our concerns in Parliament!
A thoroughly successful and fun day!
