Now that we have Rachael on the ground in Lyme Regis we decided to go for it and launch the VW street campaign in Lyme Regis.
We set up in a beautiful seafront location in sight of the Cobb and the crashing waves. This was not to be! It didn't take the heavies from the amusement arcade long to ring a council official. 'This is a concessions only area' he told us. He was a bit nonplussed by the fact that we are not a charity and that we are not selling anything or collecting money, but since all we have to do is to apply for a concession for next time, we agreed to move on to the High Street.
Here we found a fantastic pitch outside an empty hotel. Passers by were generally interested and willing to listen - we collected 120 signatures. Respect to Mike C. who wore the sandwich board all morning and used it to very good effect.
But the best bit was the owner of Alice's Bearshop who brought cups of tea and coffee and even sent out for a pack of biscuits to feed us. Then just to complete the morning, out came someone with a tray of cornish pasty samples.
This morning was a first in more ways than one! We will be back - thank you Lyme Regis.
