A Stormtrooper has been spotted on the busy high street of Hammersmith West London!
On a chilly day at the end of November, a group of young Jedi's took to the streets of Hammersmith to recruit more supporters to join the rebellion and put pressure on VW the turn away from the Darkside...
Little did we know that it would take us an hour to get Paul all suited and booted in the Stormtrooper costume, which turned out to be and adventure all in itself!
This is what Paul had to say about the experience:
It was with great excitement and a little apprehension that I arrived at the Ram Pub. Anabel arrived with the costume in a cardboard box and we proceeded to the back of the Pub's disabled toilet, this was to be my changing room. It took almost an hour to don the suit but eventually I emerged out into the pub to some amusement from the regulars and non-regulars, and then stepped out on to the pavement of King Street.
Almost immediately there was a mixture of surprise, excitement, pandemonium and good will towards me.It was a great feeling! We made our way to the Greenpeace stand and proceeded to engage the passing public. Our mission was to target VW (VolksWagen) who claim to be Environmentally Friendly, however we GREENPEACE have discovered that behind the scenes they are actually lobbying Emissions rather than their claim to reducing them. So we are asking the public to support our campaign to expose their hidden agenda and sign petition to VW aking them to turn from the Darkside.
I was inundated with requests for photographs by Mums and Dads, Girls and Boys, children eager to be seen with me. I believe this form of campaigning is very beneficial to our cause because it offers a bit of lighthearted fun, but also helps to draw in the public and engage with on on the issue we are highlighting. So; overall it was a great success, and I got to dress up and have a good time! #
We returned to the Ram Pub, took some more photos (including one of me holding a pint of Guinness, proving that Stormtroopers are partial to a drop of the black stuff too) and finally, I took the suit off and returned back to my fellow West London GP friends. - Paul
The day was a roaring succes, we collected over 70 signed petitions and definitely turned some heads! We even had a few VW cars stop to ask for pamphlets!
Well done team, we all worked very well together and thanks to everyone who volunteered on the day!
