Before we start our group activities for 2012 in York THIS SUNDAY THE 29TH (with a stall outside the Minster)...it is only right that we briefly round up the events that shaped the group in 2011.
And brief it will be because the current group only really got going in September 2011; the year Greenpeace celebrated its 40th birthday! This was following the decision of Greenpeace to concentrate community engagement efforts on key areas in the country where activity had been pretty minimal in recent months/years.
However short the new life of the group might have been so far, our confident and enthusiastic presence on the streets of York does not reflect our immaturity (the only give away might be the small number of regular actives but anyone could help us in that department!)
Throughout the 4 months in 2011 we held regular weekend stalls, providing information on current campaigns and generating lots of support for the Greenpeace efforts - the vast majority of the passers by, almost all in fact, helping ease the pains of the cold weather with the warmth felt by their genuine interest in what we were doing.
Often, a day such as this flowed seamlessly into an hour in the pub (where meetings were favoured to take place too!), never to drown any sorrows but to reflect on our success....particularly satisfying after our 2011 stormtrooper finale, the pinnacle of our success last year (of which plenty of information can be found on this page - including an amazing video created by our very own group Spielberg!)
Who knows what 2012 will bring - hopefully a growth in numbers and thus our ability - but we are sure to know that it will continue to provide us with some very good times and lots of successful campaigns!
...Starting with this Sunday the 29th, why not come by and see what we do and get involved in the 41st year in the life of Greenpeace.....
