Since last year we’ve been calling upon members of the public to show their support to Save the Arctic. Greenpeace initially hoped for 1 million signatories – they got nearly 3 million.
Today those Arctic Defenders names are in a time capsule at the bottom of the ocean on the top of the world, as can be seen from these wonderful images from a team of young people that trekked across the North Pole in harsh and extremely cold conditions.
Thanks to all those members of the public in York who supported this part of the campaign - your name is preserved in the Artic wilderness. But the campaign still continues – we need to preserve the Arctic wilderness and we need to stop the oil rush and industrialised fishing from within the Arctic region.
And so our campaign work continues and was a great success last week with many people showing their support having photos taken with our polar bear and helping raise funds for a new survival pod.
In other news, it appears that Greenland’s new government has placed a moratorium on issuing new offshore oil and gas drilling licences.Take a look at this web site here.
People power is what we need - it works.
