New Nuclear, Time To Say NO.

Evaporator D is perhaps not known to many people within the Uk. Being the biggest nuclear project in the uk, it is now making headines for all the wrong reasons.

Initially the cost was put at £90 million, but the project is now estimated to rise to £400 million, with a further rise of £100 million possible. The Nuclear build was also due to be completed by 2010, but in reality it will not be completed until at least 2014 possibly longer.

With a second reactor rising to a dangerously high temperature at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in Japan, and with more new nuclear power stations set to be built in the UK, is it time for the UK to follow Germany's example and scrap the building of new nuclear power stations? (Germany will have scrapped nuclear plants by 2022)

Future generations will rely on the decisions we make NOW and in the immediate times, we have seen how natural disasters can devastate human life and we have also seen how natural disasters and nuclear power stations can lay waste and affect thousands of people. Now we can add two more reasons why nuclear is wrong for the UK, the cost of building, that invariably never stops rising from early estimates and also the time it takes to construct, that moves from one deadline to another, one year to the next and when completed may be the mostly costly, not just in monetary terms but human life.

At a time when the people who will consume the energy of any new nuclear power stations face having to pay ever rising energy bills, the time is right to say NO to new nuclear.
