This Bill's Got No Balls

Posted by bex - 17 April 2008 at 11:08am - 0 Comments

That's the eye watering message from our friends over at I Count. They're talking of course about the Climate Change Bill - and are asking you to put the virtual squeeze on your MP, to make sure the bill gets the balls it needs to stop climate change:

The tents are down, the wellies are drying out and the mayhem is over. Here are a few of our favourite pics from Glastonbury 2007 (you can see lots more on Flickr):

Pyramid stage crowd for Amy Winehouse

I had to be up and backstage by 8.30am to deliver some vox pop videos we shot yesterday to be shown on the stages at Glastonbury. 8.30? It’s Glastonbury. But with the first bands going on around 10.30, they wanted the videos into their system early.

So I pulled myself out of my tent in the rain, made my way backstage in time only to be told I was at the wrong stage. I was supposed to be at the Other Stage, not the Pyramid Stage. Thus began my epic day running between one stage and another.

Two women sheltering under an umbrella at Glastonbury

Yesterday's summer solstice was greeted by brave souls who left their tents at stupid o'clock in the morning. Reactions to the celestial event were mixed, but by all accounts the cloud cover made it somewhat less than spectacular. Changeable is probably the best word to describe the weather and while the rivers of mud that made Glastonbury 2005 so memorable have yet to appear, persistent showers have turned the ground into something resembling chocolate soup.

Welcome to Glastonbury

Glastonbury is once again upon us and even though the festival proper doesn't start until Friday, the gates are open and happy campers are pouring in through every entrance. I'm currently holed up in a portacabin behind a replica of the Ark, madly editing video Tracy and I have shot over the past couple of days. We've a few technical hitches (lack of internet access being one of them) so we're a bit behind but now we're online, the stories will be coming thick and fast.

Glastonbury: skating, soulmates and carbon dating

A skateboarder rides an FSC ramp at Glastonbury in 2005So, we've covered the Techno-Dome and some of the highlights in the Greenpeace field. Let's see - what else have we got lined up for Glastonbury?

If you've ever wondered what your carbon footprint looks like, you can get your own carbon calculator installed on your mobile at the Bluetooth Takeaway. The Centre for Alternative Technology will be offering them to download via Bluetooth.

Then you can stroll over to the Guardian Soulmates for some 'carbon' dating. They'll match you a mate with some speed dating and carbon mating. There'll be dancing and cabaret in the evenings between 8pm and 10pm, and if you get serious we'll 'marry' you on Sunday afternoon for a year and a day, just like in the fairy tales.

Climbing training at Glastonbury

It’s almost Glastonbury time. And while I wouldn’t call it panic, yet, the excitement is mounting since the crew went down to Worthy Farm at the weekend to begin construction of the Greenpeace field.

Change your lives not the climate

Flags at Glastonbury festival

Quite a few people return from their first Glastonbury festival saying "it's changed my life". If you want to be a part of the magic, change your life and get involved with Greenpeace to help stop climate change, you'll have to take action... ah, I mean, register now.

Here in London, we're all recovering from a hectic day at the Count in the Square - 25,000 people packed into London's Trafalgar Square. We were gathered to make a call for action on climate change - everyone from the Women's Institute to the rock band Razorlight. Quite a mixture.
