Project Climate Vote is a plan to get a government that cares about climate change at the next election. Here's how you can be part of it.

When it comes to tackling climate breakdown, it can feel overwhelming to think about the scale of the problem. How can we really change the way things are?

A general election is coming and it’s our best shot at securing serious climate action – this year and in the years to come, whoever leads the next government.

It’s a unique opportunity to set the agenda, and collectively push our future leaders – from local MPs to government ministers – so they step up for a fairer, cleaner and healthier future.

Imagine waking up after the election with a government that knows it needs to act on things like cleaner rivers, better bus services, or lowering energy bills by moving away from expensive oil and gas towards cheaper, cleaner renewables.

The policies to make all of that a reality, and secure a safe and liveable planet for us all, are ready to go, and popular. A brighter future for all is within our grasp if our politicians see that the public demands them.

1. Pledge to be a Climate Voter

Project Climate Vote is our plan to push the next government, whoever it is, to take the climate crisis seriously. And you can be part of it!

Climate voters pledge to vote with climate in mind, and hold politicians to account on their climate promises – now, at the election and in future. A vote for climate is a vote for warmer homes, lower bills, more jobs and a stronger economy.

A friendly looking guy pointing at a sticker on his coat that says I'm a climate voter.
A cute kitten sitting in a window with a poster that says I'm a climate voter.

By pledging to be a Climate Voter, you are uniting with like-minded people across the country. Together, we will send a message loud and clear to all political parties ahead of the next general election: to win our votes, politicians must step up on climate.

History has shown us that when people unite with a common cause, real change can happen. If enough of us come together as Climate Voters to say the same thing, all politicians have no choice but to listen to us.

2. Share the Climate Voter pledge with your friends and family

Once you’ve joined the campaign, the next step is helping to recruit more Climate Voters. The bigger the movement we create, the louder and more visible we can be.

The goal is to get as many people as possible across the UK – from Stevenage to Southport; from all walks of life – to sign up to vote with an emphasis on creating a fairer future, from a stronger economy, to a thriving natural world.

To leave our mark on the next election, we’re going to need to work together.

4. Make Project Climate Vote visible in your community

Project Climate Vote is a plan to win a government that cares about climate. It relies on you not only being a climate voter, but showing you’re a climate voter too.

In the run up to the election, we need Project Climate Vote to be everywhere you look. Help us send a strong message that climate action is at the top of people’s many people’s wish lists when it comes to choosing the next government.

Picture this: up and down the streets in your area houses are covered in “I’m a Climate Voter” posters. Everyone is talking about it at the school gates. Every cafe and shop on the highstreet is proudly displaying its support. You can’t move for people talking about voting for strong climate action

By downloading a campaign poster and putting it up in your window, you’re helping to get the message of hope out there.

The louder and more visible we can be, the bigger the movement we can create. Whoever wins nationally, local politicians will have no choice but to listen to your community’s demands.

5. Donate to the campaign effort

As we get closer to the general election, we’re going to ramp up Project Climate Vote activity to reach people across the country.

From the streets to social media, over the phone or on the doorstep, we’ll be pushing the message far and wide. Our goal is to build a strong climate majority that politicians will listen to.

It’s an ambitious goal but with your help, it’s definitely achievable. We rely entirely on donations from people like you to fund our work.

We refuse to take any money from the government, because we want to stay completely independent. It’s your kind contributions that allow us to keep the pressure up. Help fund the campaign, so we can put climate at the top of the political agenda this year.
